Tips for International Attendees

  • Visa: Most participants from many countries can enter Japan visa-free for short stays (up to 90 days). Check the latest Japan visa requirements on the official MOFA website well in advance.
  • Currency & Payment: Japan is largely cash-based; carry some Japanese Yen (JPY). Credit cards (Visa/Master) are accepted at major hotels and stations, but not everywhere. ATMs at 7-Eleven or Japan Post are reliable for international cards.
  • Transportation: Get an IC card (Suica / Pasmo) at the airport/station for easy train/subway travel. Google Maps or Hyperdia/Navitime apps work well for route planning in English.
  • Language: English signs are common in central Tokyo, but basic Japanese phrases (or translation apps like Google Translate) are helpful. Campus staff may have limited English; conference volunteers will assist.
  • Weather & Season: Tokyo's climate varies – check forecast for your dates. Summers are hot & humid; winters can be cold. Comfortable walking shoes recommended as campus is in a hilly area.
  • Emergency: Dial 119 for ambulance/fire, 110 for police. International clinics/hospitals in central Tokyo offer English support (e.g., near Tokyo Station).

We look forward to welcoming you to Tokyo and Otsuma Women's University!
